Puella Aeterna (Maria Reuter) is a free-spirited artist whose journey began in 1969 in a remote rural area of West Germany. As an only child raised by permissive parents, Puella had the freedom to explore her myriad interests. Displaying remarkable artistic talent from an early age, she embarked on a path of creative exploration.
At the age of 13, Puella left her village to pursue formal art education in some of Europe’s finest institutions. Her thirst for knowledge and artistic growth led her to immerse herself in various art schools across the continent. Following the fall of the Berlin Wall, Puella was drawn to the vibrant underground scene of Berlin, where she temporarily set aside her art to revel in the city’s bohemian lifestyle.
Eventually, the call of art beckoned Puella once again, and she redirected her skills to the realm of tattooing. Immersing herself in this medium, she honed her craft and developed a distinctive illustrative style that garnered recognition within the tattooing community.
However, a period of burnout coinciding with the passing of both her parents thrust Puella into a profound state of depression. During this time, she found solace in her art, spending countless hours drawing and delving into the works of Swiss psychologist Carl Jung. Inspired by Jung’s concept of the eternal child-god, Puella adopted it as her artistic moniker.
Having returned to her childhood home, Puella now lives in seclusion, accompanied by her five feline companions: Xavier, Pina Colada, Marigold, Poe, and Diesel. Each day, she continues to create art, blending tattoo inks with acrylic paint and utilising reclaimed wood and cardboard as her canvas. Her current body of work showcases a freehand drawing style that explores whimsical imagery, often incorporating elements of symmetry and occasional feline motifs.

Her works invite viewers into a realm of imagination, evoking a sense of playfulness and wonder while inviting contemplation on the eternal nature of the human spirit.
